I would like to lay floors in rooms during autumn. Is this not too late? I'm interested in wood - traditional floor or boards. It is a new house, built quickly, and the foundations were laid exactly a year ago at the start of October. It's ready, heated inside, and we have already moved in. I don't know what the moisture content of screed floors is, or how to check it. What should I choose for the bedroom, and what for the living room? Which wood is most resistant and which will change its size the least? Quick installation is important for me, but so is quality, so I don't know what to choose, since the aesthetics are down to individual taste. Any advice?
Alder and birch for the bedroom. These are soft varieties, but ionise the room very well and protect against water veins. You don't normally wear shoes in the bedroom, so there's no problem. Hard wood for the living room and hall: oak, ash, acacia, merbau, doussie Africa. These are wood varieties less susceptible to expansion and shrinking, but even in these conditions you should check the moisture content. In a cement floor it should be up to 2% according to the CM method 45-60% in the air. A professional should do this.
